Organizational Leadership
Presented by Jim Robinson, Executive Director, Center for Excellence in Public Leadership, The George Washington University

This class will ask participants to move beyond thinking of leadership from the individual or team relationships perspectives, but, rather, to consider how their actions shape organizational climate. The basic theory of the case is that leader behaviors give shape to organizational climate which, in turn, activates or deactivates employee motivations and that climates which activate employee motivations constructively lead to increased employee engagement. Increased employee engagement is correlated with improved employee and organizational performance. Organizational climate is kind of like the weather….you can feel it. However, research has shown that it can be described and measured and that it can be related to specific leadership practices. We will explore both research and the practical experience of the class participants so each participant can walk away with a framework she or he can test in the “back home” environment.

Tuesday 17 July 2018 | 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Networking Leadership
Presented by Jing Burgi-Tian, Program Director of International Programs and Certified Public Manager Programs, Center for Excellence in Public Leadership, The George Washington University

The quality and scope of an employee’s network have a substantial impact on that person’s ability to become and remain a top 20% performer. Most high performers succeed by developing targeted, but not necessarily big, networks that complement and extend their ability. In this workshop, we offer you the opportunity to assess your core professional network on three important dimensions: Structural, Relational and Behavioral.
